Colonial Hills 34 Bible Baptist (Savannah) 14 This was the Peach state athletic confrence championship game. Bible Bapt was heavely favored by the AJC, colonial played almost a perfect game against
a much larger and faster team and shocked the confrence. It is considered the greatest game Colonial hills has ever played.

Colonial hills was invited to dayton Tenn to play for a Mythical National championship

Colonial hills 8 Coosa (Gadsen Ala) 15 Coosa gets revenge for their loss earlier in the year ***Note*** the temp at kickoff was 10 degrees, my dad told me the wind chill was -15. The field was frozen.

in 1984 they were in what was the peach state athletic confrence. this was the year before most schools went to single A. like Athens Christian, Shiloh hills etc.... However in 1985 when colonial was fixing to go into GHSA as a single A team along with the rest of the schools a delema came up. most of the team was seniors and a much better team than the year before. Coach Bill Thorn , a few months before comitting to GHSA held a team meeting and asked the players. The big issue was that the team could go undefeated 10-0 and not go to the playoffs because of a ghsa rule. Going undefeated was a real possibility, colonial had a tailback (Skeeter Stacks) who was looking at a full ride to Alabama, a middle linebacker who was recruted (cant recal what college he played for) , a quarterback, richie lankford who ended up a pro wrestler, and a team with 19 starting seniors. but anyway coach Thorn gave the option of an Alabama confrence that would allow Colonial to play for a championship. so, thats why in 1985 there are more Alabama teams on the schedule. The team voted to stay out of the ghsa and play for a championship. Most of the schedule stayed the same as the year before with a few additions. I put on the bottom of 1985 that colonial was the acac north region champs. I believe it stood for the alabama christian athletic confrence.

Now, you have to remember that in the 70's and 80's colonial, athens and shiloh, bible baptist, IMS were all powerhouses. evidently these days colonial and shiloh are playing 8 man football im not sure what year the transition took place (Prob around 1992). But in 1985 when colonial was playing in the acac, shiloh went into the ghsa as a single A team and went 10-0. The year before colonial beat shiloh 27-12. Shilohs team was almost all seniors as well and were very tough. That was the result colonial was trying to avoid. 10-0 and the season ends. I remember that shiloh believed they could have won state that year in single A. They were stacked in the backfield. Darin Armor at tailback (ended up playing college at liberty) and a huge fullback at 240lbs, and had a 6'4" qb with an arm. Their coach was coach riddle, who left shiloh and went over to Marietta to be the blue devils qb coach.

Colonials coach Bill Thorn coached 20 seasons in georgia. He was at headland high school, then colonial, and then helped start Landmark christian down at old Campbel of fairburn. Thorn is no longer coaching football but is still coaching track. His state titles in track are very impressive. something like 9 state championsips in track (Georgia High school Assoc). Hes pushing 80 years old now and still runs marathons. He just ran the peachtree again.

1986 was the last year these private schools really fielded really good teams. im not sure if economic issues killed their enrollment, or what. Marietta Christian had been one of the top tier teams but the school folded in 1984. These teams had been playing 11 man football since the late 60's and early 70's. Their advantage was that they were located in the citys. Colonial was in east point at this time. The schools in the area were like russel, archer, harper, and college park, etc. so, if parents had a little money they could sent their kids to a private school which was very strict and could avoid the rampant drug use that was going on in the 80's. in the 80's the tuition was only around 150-200 bucks a month. so it was very affordable. colonial i know had over 500 students at one point. Colonial moved to lithia springs and now they are no longer competing with the inner city and thats why they cant get enrollment up. plus the tuition is so high now. the fewer students the higher the tuition i guess.
