Ballard-Hudson opened in 1949, a combination of [[Ballard]] and [[Hudson]] high schools.<ref>"$500,000 High School Erected in Macon, Ga.," The Pittsburgh Courier (Pa.), November 5, 1949</ref> The merger made it the only black public high school in [[Macon]], which it would remain until the opening of [[Peter G. Unlike Macon's white high schools, Ballard-Hudson was coeducational.

== Football ==
Ballard-Hudson competed in the [[Georgia Interscholastic Association]] from 1949-67. Starting in 1968, the school played in the [[Georgia High School Association]], where it would remain until closure in 1970.

Ballard-Hudson won two state football titles in the GIA, one in [[1955 GIA Class AA football season|1955]] and another in [[1959 GIA Class AA football season|1959]]. In 1955, the Tigers won the Class AA title over [[Howard (Atlanta|Howard of Atlanta]], 33-6. In 1959, they defeated [[Washington (Atlanta)|Washington of Atlanta]], 14-7.
