In 1965, Blakeney was named for R.E. Blakeney, longtime administrator of the school. Blakeney's previous name was Waynesboro High & Industrial. Blakeney closed in 1970 after total integration, most students going to [[Waynesboro]] High.<br />

Originally a member of the Georgia Interscholastic Association, Blakeney jumped to the Georgia High School Association in 1967.<br />

Blakeney was a member of Region 8-AA in 1967, but played a non-region schedule, mostly against former GIA schools now belonging to the GHSA. At the end of the season, it lost to Hamilton in the largest margin of victory in a GHSA game, 95-0.<br />

Blakeney played full region schedules in 8-AA in its last two years of existence.<br />
