Carver High School burned in the 1940s. It was soon rebuilt,<ref>The Union Recorder, October 7, 1948</ref> but Baldwin County school officials knew the building would be inadequate for the load of students from both it and [[Eddy]], a private school in Milledgeville that had also recently burned. The new building opened in 1949.<br />

Plans were in the works by 1952 to build a new high school,<ref>The Union Recorder, September 25, 1952</ref> which was known as Boddie when it opened in 1956.
