Eddy began as a private school. The building burned in 1925 and 1946,<ref>[http://georgiashpo.org/sites/uploads/hpd/pdf/Reflections_October_2012.pdf Reflections, Volume X, No. 4, October 2012]</ref> but was not rebuilt after the second fire. Eddy's students were combined with [[Carver (Milledgeville)|Carver High School]],<ref>The Union Recorder, October 7, 1948</ref> which had also recently burned. The new school, finished in 1949, was too small for the student load, leading to a new high school being built just seven years later.<br />
