Johnson County High School opened in 1966 as a consolidation of Wrightsville and Kite<ref>The Wrightsville Headlight, April 14, 1966</ref>. Kite had been suggested for closure by the state in 1960<ref>Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Feb. 9, 1960</ref> but held on until Georgia changed educational standards. The Johnson school system believed it could not keep both Wrightsville and Kite accredited, which in turn would make Johnson lose out on state funds<ref>The Wrightsville Headlight, April 14, 1966</ref><ref>The Augusta Chronicle, April 15, 1966</ref>.<br />

Dock Kemp, an all-grades African-American school in Wrightsville, absorbed high school students from Adrian and Kite on Jan. 1, 1957, a mid-year consolidation<ref>The Wrightsville Headlight, Dec. 6, 1956</ref>.
