Tutt was elementary school until 1967. In 1965, the Richmond County Board of Education accepted a $600,000 bid to add a gymnasium and an addition to the school, transforming it into an all-grades school.<ref>Augusta Chronicle, October 19, 1965</ref> In 1970, the Board acted on a suggestion by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and a made it a junior high school for grades 8-9.<ref name="board">"Tutt High Changed to a junior high effective in fall," Augusta Chronicle, April 10, 1970</ref> Tutt's high school students were split between [[Richmond Academy]] and the new [[Westside High]] (then called Washington Road).<ref name="board"/>

Tutt Elementary opened in 1959 as a segregated school.<ref>Augusta Chronicle, August 23, 1959</ref>

==Football==
The Tutt Dragons played only three years of football.

In [[1967 Tutt Dragons|1967]], all of its opponents were also African-American schools. Tutt was a member of the [[Georgia High School Association]]'s Class AAA in [[1968 GHSA Class AAA football season|1968]] and [[1969 GHSA Class AAA football season|1969]].
