==School district history==
Warren County High School became known as such in 1956, the conclusion of school building projects through the Minimum Foundation Program<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Aug. 17, 1956</ref>. At the time of the name change, there were no other white high schools in the county. It is possible the name change occurred because the new school built Warrenton consolidated all county white schools into one school complex<ref>Georgia Educational Directory, 1956-57</ref><ref>The Warrenton Clipper, July 6, 1956</ref>. At the time of consolidation, there were also schools at Camak, Norwood and 150th District, the latter also known as Purvis<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, July 6, 1956</ref>.

Eight years prior to the opening of the new school, Warrenton High School was considered in bad shape. No one was allowed in the auditorium<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Sept. 24, 1948</ref>. A retrospective of schools in 1956 said the building was constructed in 1915<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, July 6, 1956</ref>.

Warrenton High and Elementary was also opened in 1956<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Aug. 17, 1956</ref>, though it opened after Warren County High because of construction delays. Like the white high school, it was built after being approved by the State School Building Authority. Original plans were to build it and elementary schools at Norwood and Salem<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Feb. 12, 1954</ref>, but Salem was dropped from the construction list.

Warren County eliminated its dual system in 1970<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, April 24, 1970</ref> with total integration. The system's desegregation plan sent grades 1-5 to the Warrenton High and Elementary plant, grades 6-7 to Norwood and 8-12 to Warren County High. The growth in students caused Warren County High to jump from Class C to Class A<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Sept. 4, 1970</ref>. Other changes saw Warren County's nickname changed from Blue Devils to Screaming Devils<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Sept. 4, 1970</ref>, which also incorporates Warrenton High and Elementary's nickname of Screaming Eagles<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, April 10, 1970</ref>.

Briarwood Academy was opened in 1970 after a private school survey was conducted early in the year<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Jan. 23, 1970</ref>. With McDuffie County parents also invested in the project, it was originally going to be known as Tom Watson Academy<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, Feb. 13, 1970</ref> but was soon given the name Briarwood<ref>The Warrenton Clipper, March 20, 1970</ref>.
