Waynesboro High & Industrial was one of many public black high schools<ref>The True Citizen, August 23, 1951</ref> in Waynesboro until building projects under the Minimum Foundation Program were completed in 1955. The changes affected all of Burke County's black students, reducing their number of schools in the county from 42 to six.<ref>The True Citizen, May 26, 1955</ref> A new Waynesboro High & Industrial was built in the program.<ref>The True Citizen, September 30, 1954</ref><br />

Waynesboro High & Industrial would change its name to Blakeney in 1965 in honor of longtime educator R.E. Blakeney. The high school portion of Blakeney would close with integration in 1970.<br />

Football seems to have begun at Waynesboro High & Industrial in 1958. The squad reached the region playoffs in 1964, losing to Elder.<br />
