  • In high school he played for state championship teams in football and baseball at McMinn Central High School in Tennessee.
  • Derrick graduated from Maryville College and has an M.S. in Computer Technology from Lesley University. While at Maryville College, he was a four-year letterman and a three-year starting quarterback.

Coaching career

  • He began his teaching career at Lenoir City High School in Tennessee, where he served as the Offensive Coordinator.
  • Derrick then went to Temple High School where he was the Offensive Coordinator for four years and the Defensive Coordinator for three years.
  • Derrick returned to Tennessee to serve as the head football coach at his alma mater, McMinn Central.
  • He came to Georgia in 2009 and was Offensive Coordinator for Glynn Academy for four years.

Awards

  • Chattanooga Times Coach of the Year.
  • He is an Inductee into the East Tennessee High School Hall of Fame.
