Game summary

Neither team could move the ball well. The North led in total offense 144-128. Brown’s Bill Kinard got loose on a 41-yard scoring run in the third, Ronnie Newton kicked the point, and it looked like the final score would be 7-0. The South got a huge break late in the game. The North’s Jim Woodall was back to punt on his own 20. The snap went over his head and Woodall fell on the ball, giving the South the ball on the eight. Two plays later, the ball was on the three. Columbus quarterback Joe Dunn fumbled the snap and a lineman kicked it into the end zone. Lanier end Al Gerhardt recovered for the South touchdown. Jiggy Smaha split the uprights to tie the game.
