Game summary
North coach Ray Lamb summed it up, “you can’t install an offense like the Wishbone in these few days.” The Yanks backfield, which according to reporter Guy Curtright “ looked like a “Who’s Who in Georgia high school rushing,” managed just 71 yards total offense. The South scored the first time it had the ball when Columbus quarterback Steve Hale hit Terry Gallaher from 37. The North didn’t threaten until the waning seconds of the game. According to Curtright, “the last few seconds were the only things to save the game from being a complete bore.” The North had the ball on the eight when Warner Robins guard George Collins creamed Charles Middlebrooks for a loss on a sweep. Auburn-bound Craig Fleming from Henderson was the MVP.
