Game summary

The North ran up a 17-6 lead at halftime, then withstood a South rally to win 17-14. Offensive MVP Charlie Ward led the South to one second half touchdown and had the Rebs knocking on the door late until Newton County’s Dale Carter ended the threat with a key interception. Carter, the Defensive MVP, set up both North touchdowns with punt returns. The North opened the scoring with a 23-yard Chris Gardocki field goal in the first. Walt Crowder made it 10-0 on a four-yard run later in the period. The South’s Tim Townsend answered with an 8-yard scoring run to cut the North lead to 10-6. Lovett’s Wright Mitchell threw 5 yards to Paul Etheridge to put the North up 17-6. Dexter Copeland got the South touchdown in the third on a 4-yard run. Ward passed to Brad Miller for the conversion.
