Game summary

The North kept the ball on the ground (attempting just six passes) and avoided turnovers to post the 12-10 win over the South. Villa Rica quarterback Phillip Johnson scored on a 25-yard run in the first to put the North up 6-0. Morrow’s Carlton Oswalt cut the margin to 6-3 with a 23-yard field goal later in the period. Johnson threw 2 yards to Dalton tight end Steve Hingson in the third to stretch the North lead to 12-3. The Rebs added a meaningless score late on Antonio Leroy’s 3-yard run. The win was especially sweet for North coach Jimmy Johnson whose last team at Douglas County had gone 0-10. North quarterback Phillip Johnson was the Offensive MVP while fellow Villa Rican Brandon Tolbert won the Defensive MVP award.
