Campbell High School "Panthers" was a public secondary school located in Smyrna, Georgia


History

Campbell High School was in 1952 from the merger of Smyrna (Old) and Fitzhugh Lee (Smyrna) High schools. In 1989 Wills High School merged with Campbell to form the "new" Smyrna High School "Spartans", one Year later (1990) the renamed Campbell, because of court ordered policy of Land where the school was originally Located.

Football

The 1987 Campbell Panthers went 10-2. Their regular season record was 9-1. The panthers opened up with a 33-10 victory over Marietta. Campbell and McEachern were both undefeated going into their regular season game. The game was 11 Alive's game of the week (or maybe channel 5?). In the regular season, Campbell lost to McEachern 13-10 after going into halftime with a 7-3 lead. After beating South Cobb in the first round of the region playoffs, the Panthers season would come to an end, losing to region rival McEachern for the 2nd time that season 24-3. The Panthers head coach was John Allison. The offensive line coach was Monty Fountain. The offensive line consisted of Chase Youngblood and Woodrow "Woody" Milam at tackles, Center Matt Hollis, and guards Trey Green, Marshall Childs, Brent Jones, and Ted Prevost. Chris Portwood was the quarterback, and standout backs were Brian Mitchell and Jeff Wright.
