Monitor was a former African-American school in Fitzgerald.
History
Monitor's final graduating class was in 1967,[1] though total integration came later. Monitor was a Fitzgerald city school; Ben Hill County, then a separate system, had its own high school at Queensland. White students from city and county were served by Fitzgerald High.
After integration, Monitor was converted to a middle school.[2] Portions of the original campus still stand as the Monitor Enrichment Center.
Football
Though it had long existed as a school, Monitor's first football team seems to have come in 1955.
Playing in the Georgia Interscholastic Association, Monitor advanced to the state Class B semifinals in 1961 before losing 14-7 to Wayne County Training. The Eagles' last season was 1966.
